MedAustron (EBG MedAustron GmbH) built an ion beam therapy facility cancer treatment in Wr. Neustadt including a department for research. There are two kinds of ion beams provided for the patients: protons (nuclei of hydrogen atom) or carbon ions (nuclei of carbon atom).
In addition to the treatment rooms there are all kinds of modalities (CT, PET-CT, MRI, US) provided, to ensure comprehensive diagnostics as soon as purposeful radiation treatment planning. There are also rooms for examination and treatment for patients before, during and after radiation and also a recovery room for patients with anaestesia. In the research area laboratories for radiation biology, cell culture, chemistry and radiation physics are provided.
