The planned structure of the building – two long interconnected wings – allows for a clear allocation of areas belonging to BOKU (University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences) and ARCS (Austrian Research Center Seibersdorf). At the same time this structure complies with the stricter access control criteria required for ARCS, without obstructing communication between the two sectors.

Clear function mappings.

The ground floor basically accommodates joint functions, such as lecture rooms, the cafeteria, HVAC rooms and the building’s utility spaces. The cafeteria was situated in a split-level space in the connecting area between the two wings, to thus act as the focus of communications for the building. Above the ground floor there are two floors for labs and offices. The basement is primarily occupied by HVAC rooms. Due to their room height requirements, the large auditorium and the pilot plant of the NAWARO Department and WOODK+ , which are both located on the ground floor, also reach down to the basement. The ventilation system for the building is situated on the flat roofs and protected by a weatherproof enclosure, whose vertical glass surfaces make HVAC equipment readings visible from the outside.
